Raiders Knocked Out

The Rutland Raiders were knocked out of the TOJLL playoffs on Thursday night after a 8-1 loss at the hands of the Vernon Tigers. The Tigers swept the series 2 games to none and have advanced to the next round and will face the South Okanagan Flames. Cody Taschuk made 44 saves in the loss while Iain Hart scored the lone Raiders marker.

The loss marked the end to a few Raiders junior careers:

Jared MacLennan - After 5 seasons with the Raiders, Jared will be a big addition to the Kelowna Senior Raiders. Well liked by his teammates, Jared will often be remembered for his quiet demeanor and popularity within the community. Jared led by example and placed a solid foundation for the future of our orgnaization.

Foster Hodgins - After taking 4 years off from lacrosse Foster made a return this season between the pipes for the Raiders. After a stellar regular season, Foster seperated his shoulder in Kamloops during the last week of the regular season and missed the playoffs.  A true Raider at heart, Foster will be greatly missed by his teammates and coaches.

Ryan Milling - After joining the Raiders in 2007 from Ontario, Ryan moved on to the Burnaby Lakers Junior A club last year, then rejoined the Raiders this season. Ryan won 2007 TOJLL Defensive Player of the Year and was  a valuable member of the Raiders defense.

Alex `Spike`Diemand - Spike brought his defensive intensity night in and night out during his 4 year career with the Raiders. After sitting out last year the club was happy to have him back for his final year, and look forward to seeing him in the Senior ranks next season.

The Raiders would like to thank all four of these players for their dedication and hard work over the years.  Your commitment and leadership has been invaluable to the future of our organization.

Raiders Lose to Flames

The South Okanagan Flames opened their 2009 TOJLL season with a big win over the Rutland Raiders by the score of 8-4 Saturday in Kelowna. The Flames jumped out to an early 6-1 lead thanks to  a pair of powerplay goals by both Tyler Prentice and Darcy Ricard, and never looked back. Scoring for the Raiders was Alistair Hart, Iain Hart, Ryan Phillips and Jared MacLennan. The feisty affair saw the teams combine for 76 minutes in penalties, including a rather interesting melee in the third period. After an illegal stick call on a South Ok player, Flames player Brendan Mckinley decided to tangle with Ryan Phillips which didnt end up being a wise choice. Following this a small scrum ensued which saw 4 players, uncluding both goaltenders being ejected from the game. The win puts the Flames at 1-0 on the young season, and the Raiders move to 1-1. The Raiders lost second year player Ryan Gregory to a serious knee injury in the second period.

Next action for your Rutland Raiders is Saturday May 2 as they host the Kamloops Rattlers. This game will be held at the Rutland Arena. Game time is 7:30pm, the Raiders look forward to seeing all their fans as they return to Rutland.
